The activities of the metrological laboratory
Being able to rely on precise measuring instruments, such as scales, is a strategic factor in every industrial, commercial and production sector. For this reason, companies need to turn to a metrological laboratory which, thanks to specific skills, technology and transparency, can provide for the control of weighing instruments.
Accreditation
The LCD Srl Metrological Laboratory – Cutino Div. OdI (SA405) – recognized by UnionCamere – carries out its Periodic Verification activity according to the UNI CEI EN ISO/IEC 17020:2012 standard. It is carried out at a periodic interval prescribed for each type of instrument and is reported in the Ministerial Decree. 93/2017.
Accreditation constitutes a commitment to impartiality, independence of judgement, confidentiality and application of the law for the accredited body and accreditation constitutes a value attribute for the customer who relies on the accredited body.
Progressing towards continuous improvement of the efficiency and effectiveness of the management system and services offered is a cluster that our company cannot ignore.
Periodic verification
The metrological laboratory carries out periodic checks on those metric instruments that are used in relations with third parties.
The periodic verification of measuring instruments is the mandatory periodic check prescribed and regulated by law and consists of ascertaining the metrological reliability, as well as the presence/integrity of the seals, the CE-M marking and compliance with the maximum tolerated errors.
Periodic Verification can only be performed on approved measuring instruments.
The verification is carried out on each instrument every three years, at least for non-automatic instruments. For instruments that operate automatically, however, an annual check is carried out.
These checks are very important, because periodically those who use these instruments are subjected to an inspection visit. If during the inspection visit an instrument is not proven to be verified, the owner may incur an administrative sanction and the instrument will also be blocked.
Metrological booklet
When the periodic verification is carried out, the laboratory affixes a verification mark and the metrological booklet, a unique document for each scale, is filled in, updated or issued.
The positive outcome of the Periodic Verification is certified by the application of the green mark showing the reference of the Inspection Body and the expiry date of the next Verification.
If the instrument does not comply with the maximum permitted errors foreseen by the legislation, a red mark will consequently be affixed which prohibits its use until the necessary repair of the instrument.
In the next update we will learn more about the professional figure of the Metrologist and his activities.
